I'm back!!!!!

Well, my fearless readers, I'm still alive and kicking here.
I do, however have some news to announce. No, I'm not getting married neither am I pregnant.
I have FINALLY finished my cousin Sarah's prayer shawl! Isn't she beautiful?
The only bad thing about this shawl is it has beads that you have to add to your stitches, and as God as my witness, I'll never do beading again!
On a lighter note, Sarah did love her shawl.

What else have I been up to you ask? Well, I have been testing some patterns for stitchnerd on Ravelry. I did the Niagara Cowl, and I'm test knitting the Peruvian Central and Slytherin Shawls. If you'd like to participate, head over to the stitchnerds Group on Ravelry.

For my Niagara Cowl, I used my Malabrigo Sock yarn that I bought a few months ago.

For my Peruvian Central Shawl, I'm using Unger's Pima from Peru. It's knitting up very nicely and I really like the pattern. It's very easy to do.
For my Slytherin Shawl, I'm using my Noro Cash Iroha in a pretty deep teal green color. It was given to my by my knitting friend Marcia, who will forever have my deep and abiding gratitude for introducing me to the glorious Cash Iroha. Thank you Marcia!

In other news, I've been learning how to spin my own yarn! I'm still a newbie at it, but I'm getting better every time I pick up my drop spindle. Here's the fiber I'm spinning. Doesn't it look like cotton candy?

Here's what the yarn looks like.
Not too bad for a first time spinner.

Well, I have to get off here and help my mom clean for Thanksgiving. Have a wonderful holiday and if I don't get to post before the new year, Merry Christmas and have a safe and happy New Years!

New Yarn Preview!

Well, I am finally posting, and this time, it didn't take me 9 months! Woot!

New Yarn Preview
Well, I've been yarn shopping recently at the local yarn stores (LYS) in my area and got some AWESOME yarn!!!
I got some Fiesta Ballerina yarn. It is an Alpaca/Tencel blend lace yarn.
Isn't the color so pretty? I got the colorway - Azores Islands. It's a mix of blue-purple-mint green-rose pink. Each skein has about 925 yards of yarn, and it's so thin that you could floss with it, but it's so soft.

I also bought some Cascade Heritage 150 Paints Sock Yarn in the Violets colorway. Each skein has about 492 yards. I can't wait to start knitting with this yarn.  I think I might do another Celeste Shawl once I finish the one for my cousin.

I went on a yarn crawl a few months ago and bought a skein of the Malabrigo Sock Yarn in a blue-green varigated color. I'm still not sure what I'm going to make with this yarn.

I also bought a skein of the Ella Rae Lace Merino Sock Yarn in a very nice blue-purple-lavender-pink varigated color. Each skein has about 460 yards. Like the Malabrigo Sock, I really don't know what I'm going to make with this yarn.

And now we come to the part of the post that I like to call "UFO Sightings". For those of you that aren't in the know, in knitting and crochet, a UFO is an UnFinished Object.

This is the Celeste Shawl that I am knitting as a prayer shawl for my cousin who was diagnosed with breast cancer back in March. I was working on it at a Memorial Day picnic with my friends when a disaster happened. I somehow - and don't ask me how, cause I have NO idea - dropped a stitch down a few rows. Now normally, this wouldn't be a problem. You just pull the dropped stitch up thru the ladders until you get to the row you're working on. My problem however, was and is much more complicated than that. Apparently, I dropped a stitch at a yarn over/decrease area. Yep, I was knitting along and all of the sudden came to this gigantic hole in knitting. I have to admit that I did say a few words that I shouldn't have said, but I think God will understand. If not, I can always make a God Hat and donate it to charity. I am planning on picking this back up maybe sometime next week. I have a few days off and I think I'll need it. Especially if I find that the hole was caused by a break in the yarn and not a dropped stitch. This way, I'll have the time to hightail it to one of the LYS in the area for some expert help.

Well, I think I've blogged enough for today. I think I'll go surf Ravelry for some shawl patterns.
Farewell dear readers! I bid that God bless you wherever you may be.

No, I haven't died . . . . I've just been REALLY busy

I just noticed that it have been over 9 months since I last posted! Wow!
Well, I guess I should report on what I am knitting right now.
I have 1 UFO, The Celeste Shawl from the Sock Yarn One Skein Wonders book. I am making it for my cousin. I'm using the Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock Yarn in the Flamingo Stripe colorway.

I recently finish Citron by Hilary Smith Callis on Knitty. The pattern calls for the Malabrigo Lace, but I only had Malabrigo Silky Merino. It knitted up beautifully.  So beautifully that I just had to use some Noro Cash Iroha. I'm almost finished so when I'm done, I'll try to remember to post some pics.

I noticed that on my Dashboard where I can monitor and change anything that it has a place where you can see who is viewing your blog and where they are located. I just found out that I had someone from the Netherlands and from Canada who viewed my blog!
Thank you! Danke! Arigato!

Well, I have to log off here and get to bed. See ya'all in another 9 months! (Just kidding)

Farewell dear readers! I bid thee good night.

Blog Virgin Alert!

Well, this is my first ever blog post! Yes, I'm a blogging virgin. Okay, maybe I posted on MySpace, but I don't really think that counts. Kinda like getting kissed by some kid back in grade school.
So, for all intents and purposes, we'll just say that this is my first. No one will ever know the difference.

What I'm planning on doing with my blog is start and keep a running update on what knitting or crochet project I'm working on.

Right now, I have 2 projects on my needles. The first is a little kid's/toddler's hat. Just a simple beanie with a k1p1 rib. The second is The Sockhead Hat on Ravelry.  Ravelry is an online knitting and crochet community that has a crapload of stuff.  You want knitting pattern? Crochet pattern? Find a knitting/crochet group or shop near you? You can do all that and more!!!

Yes, I'm shamelessly promoting the site, and no, I do not own the site or know anyone who does.

I recently finished my Hermoine hat. Yes, that's Hermoine from Harry Potter. It's the grey one that she wears in The Half-Blood Prince.  She wears it when the trio go to Hogsmeade and that chick gets that cursed necklace and goes all The Ring/Grudge all over the Harry Potter Universe.

I also adapted the Hermoine pattern into a beret.  I had 2 skeins of super uber soft baby alpaca yarn that was just crying to be made into a hat. So, I answered it's cry and created the Hermoine Beret! Tada!
The original pattern was a k6p5 rib. The knit section was cabled every 9 rows and there were eyelets in the purl section.
The only difference with my adaptation is that the knit section is cabled or twisted every 5 rows. Defidently changes the look of the hat!

Well, I think that this is a pretty good first post.  I'm planning on updating every few days, but if that changes, I will put up a notice for anyone who really cares.
